Before discovering her love of illustration she dedicated herself to Architecture. She has illustrated numerous children's books and worked for UNICEF. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, winning various international prizes and a selection for Illustrators Exhibition in the Bologna Children's Book Fair. She was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal for the children's book Is it a Mermaid? written by Candy Gourlay and published by Otter-Barry Books last year. Since 1999, Francesca has been giving workshops and educational courses on drawing, creative techniques and colour theory. Francesca Chessa lives in Turin, Italy.
